Professor Emma Renold

Over the last five years, I have been conducting longitudinal research (with Gabrielle Ivinson) with young people growing up in the former mining communities of the South Wales valleys.

Joining the Future Matters Collective and taking seriously the (inter)play of arts, theory and ethnographic research has enabled us to materialise research assemblages that glimpse at the ‘more-than’ of discourse and tap into young people’s embodied knowings and future becomings.

Making research matter through arts-based methodologies is central to our participatory practices of re-imagining and creating new futures with marginalised young people.
